Why $10?

Many people have asked why we seek donations of only $10 per month. Most of these questions come from a place of kindness by folks who would like to make a larger donation, or in some cases a significant one-time donation. While we are grateful for every dollar generously committed to the cause of fighting this terrible disease, smaller recurring donations are a key part of our longer-term approach toward building sustainable funding for cancer research.

While $10 per month for 10 million people is a catchy slogan, it’s not the reason we set our goal for each member at that amount. Our reason is two-fold:

  1. It minimizes the commitment barrier
  2. It is an amount that is easy to ask for from a stranger

As a member of this community, each month you’ll get a payment reminder email, followed by a receipt for your donation (tax-deductible, of course). Soon, you’ll also receive a monthly newsletter with updates and membership perks. Each time you get that email or newsletter, you can feel good about the impact you’ve made. Maybe it will brighten your day. Perhaps it will give you a sense of pride for fighting for the ones you love who went too soon. IT may even cause you to make a change, a reminder to quick smoking or to add some fresh fruit to your daily routine. Maybe it will encourage you to step outside and go for walk. It may even fill you with gratitude and cause you to cherish the things in life that are so easy to take for granted.

Simple actions…fleeting moments…basic words…small donations…easy requests… they all have the potential to make momentous change if we just give them the power to do so.

Our goal is to build a community of cancer warriors. People who are committed for the long haul. We don’t want to ask you to write a check and move on. We don’t want to ask you to run a marathon, or walk five miles, or buy something you don’t really need. Our ask of you is much simpler than that, and again it comes in two easy steps:

  1. We want you to find $10/month to give directly to cancer research
  2. We want you to recruit 1 person every year

That’s it. Consider the impact of this simple commitment. If every person in our community does those two simple things, in less than ten years we will have over 125K members donating more than $15M per year to cancer research. In that timeframe we will have directed more than $30M toward cancer research.

Imagine the change that is possible when you equip the world’s best cancer researchers with a significant and steady flow of funds that goes directly to their research lab, without forms, or panels, or committees or red tape that slows real progress. We are not funding hospitals or pharmaceutical companies or government-run research. We are directly and immediately funding the best and most tangible hope for progress against cancer.

And all it takes is $10 per month and 1 friend per year.
